Testimonials

Thank you for your heartfelt words, encouragement, and support throughout my journey — not only as a music teacher but also as a solo artist. I feel truly blessed and deeply grateful for everything.

Samantha Stewart

Dance Choreographer & Owner, Defined Movement Dance

I’ve had the joy of knowing Joanne as a music teacher in Wawa for many years—almost as long as I’ve been dancing with Defined Movement Dance! Her music has this incredible power to sweep you away and evoke a full range of emotions. Every time she releases a new piece, I get genuinely excited. You can just sit back, listen, and let yourself be carried by the rises and falls of her notes.

While I’ve loved every composition she’s created, “Rise Above” holds a special place for me. It fills me with hope, especially during times when I need to imagine better days and feel inspired. That’s the kind of transformative, uplifting power Joanne’s music brings.

The novelist Ernest Hemingway once said, "The writer must write what he has to say, not speak it." This sentiment beautifully reflects the feelings Joanne Poisson's music evokes.

Joanne's compositions must ultimately be personally experienced, not merely described. Yet as I quietly sat and listened to the artistic arrangements of her debut album Wildflower, a rash of emotions overcame me. The cascading crescendos of "Waves of Superior," the enduring intensity of "Wildflowers Among Thorns," and the uplifting, triumphant tempo of "Rise Above" represent just a handful of her soulful songs. The real genius of this album, though, is not merely in its alluring arrangements, but that it holds a transcendent beauty for all to appreciate.

Friend and fan of Joanne's beautiful music

Listening to her music feels like stepping into a story taking root — each melody unfolding like a brushstroke on a canvas, layering color and emotion, shaping something ever-changing and alive. I’ve watched her hands glide across the piano keys like the waves on Lake Superior — a natural wonder that moves in gentle rhythm at times, and at others, with powerful, breathtaking force. In those rare moments of solitude, when the world falls utterly still and even silence has a sound, her music echoes softly in my mind. It lingers like memory, like light after sunset — music that leaves a trace so deep it becomes timeless.

Joanne’s music reaches inside a person and grabs them by the soul, welcoming them to explore emotion while appreciating the delicate yet precise flow of her fingers’ dance. Complex and masterful, her music is an honest representation of life in the beautiful, yet sometimes harsh world of Northern Ontario. She explores themes inspired by the nature around her, while drawing the listener to engage their ear to listen for the subtleties she places between the notes. I could listen for hours …
